Studio Membership Expectations and Policies
Studio members are expected to clean their workspace and tools during working sessions, including both weekday access and open studio hours.
Studio members are expected to use studio equipment with care and for the intended use. If you are unsure about the proper use of tools or equipment please check with the studio instructor during the week.
All registered studio members must clear out their shelves on or before the last day of the month, remaining work, tools, and clay will not be saved.
All greenware must be dry and on the shelf to be fired by the monthly deadline. Studio members may return within 2 weeks of the following month to glaze any remaining bisque-fired work (not to exceed 2 hours of studio time).
At no time is any student allowed to handle or operate studio kilns, kiln equipment, or adjust glazes.
When you purchase a class or studio membership, you reserve a seat. We cannot offer refunds within one week of the class/membership start date.
All glazes react differently to application, firing temperature, and oxygen levels in the kiln at each firing. Due to these variables that are out of our control, we cannot predict how an item or glaze will react on the surface of your work. The end results of glazing/firing may not be what you were anticipating. Cottonwood Clay Studio is not responsible for unexpected outcomes during glaze firings.
Refunds will not be given for ceramic works that break, crack, glaze that runs, or turn out incorrectly or unexpectedly.
Our staff reserves the right to refuse firing items based on what may appear to be an unacceptable risk of causing damage to our kiln, other students’ work, or that the item contains a product which is considered a health hazard.
Cottonwood Clay Studio includes glaze materials and firing costs in clay fees; no outside clay or glaze is permitted, underglaze must be approved. You may purchase clay at the studio from staff/instructors or via our website.
Our studio is a community making space and education center. Due to space limitations, we cannot & do not accommodate production work. Studio firings will be inclusive to all members and students using the studio. Those making larger quantities of work will not have their work fired in one load.
Any item not picked up within 2 weeks days after firing completion will be considered abandoned and will be donated to the studio, discarded, or given away. It is the student’s responsibility to pick up artwork in a timely manner
